Educational Training for Schools:Teach SOCIAL! Silicon Valley provides specialized training for Pilot Programs on public school campuses within school districts in Silicon Valley. These programs benefit the most under-served and at-risk population in our schools today – students with High Functioning Autism (HFA), PDD-NOS, Asperger’s Syndrome (AS), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Non-Verbal Learning Disability (NVLD), and related social learning challenges. The need for these educational programs within the state of California and nationwide cannot be understated. Current statistics from the Centers for Disease Control indicate that 1 in every 150 children has some form of autism and 1 in 94 boys have the diagnosis. This alarming growth can be seen in the fact that a child is born with autism every 20 minutes and the rate is increasing every year. The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) statistics report that 85% of the current population of individuals with autism is under the age of 21. Children higher on the spectrum (HFA, PDD-NOS, and AS) have significant social cognitive challenges, yet few – if any – schools have programs to address these needs. Also, many children with a diagnosis of ADHD and NVLD have similar social deficits. TSSV is dedicated to expanding its school training in the future. |
